Reports to: Communications Director
Part-Time 20-30 hrs/week

Responsibilities

The Graphics Designer must possess the following skills and attributes: strong creative, strategic, analytical and organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work at a fast pace, in concert with Communications Director; proven project management skills; ability to handle multiple projects and processes simultaneously; and strong attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:                   

  • Meet with Communications Director to determine the scope of a project;
  • Advise on strategies to reach a particular audience;
  • Determine the message the design should portray;
  • Create images that identify a product or convey a message;
  • Develop graphics for product illustrations, logos, social media, and websites;
  • Select colors, images, text style, and layout while staying within the brand guide parameters;
  • Present designs to Communications Director for final approval;
  • Incorporate changes recommended by the Communications Director into the final design;
  • Review designs for errors before printing or publishing them;
  • Combine art and technology to communicate ideas through images and the layout of websites and printed pages. May use a variety of design elements to achieve artistic or decorative effects;
  • Decide how images and text will go together on a print or webpage, including how much space each will have;
  • When using text in layouts, collaborate closely with writers who choose the words and decide whether the words will be put into paragraphs, lists, or tables;
  • Through the use of images, text, and color, Transform statistical data into visual graphics and diagrams, which can make complex ideas more accessible;
  • Keep up to date with the latest software and computer technologies to remain competitive;

 



Qualifications / Skills Required

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Analytical skills. Must be able to look at work from the point of view of our members/consumers and examine how the designs they develop will be perceived by the member/consumer to ensure they convey the desired message.
  • Artistic ability. Must be able to create designs that are artistically interesting and appealing to members and consumers. They produce rough illustrations of design ideas, either by hand sketching or by using a computer program.
  • Communication skills. Must communicate with members, consumers, and other designers to ensure that the designs accurately reflect the desired message and effectively express information.
  • Computer skills. Use specialized graphic design software to prepare designs.
  • Creativity. Must be able to think of new approaches to communicating ideas to members/consumers. Able to develop unique designs that convey a recognizable meaning on behalf of IEBP.
  • Time-management skills. Graphic designers often work on multiple projects at the same time, each with a different deadline.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field with four to five years experience preferred;  Additional related experience of two to four years may be considered in lieu of education;
  • Experience with digital technology and editing software packages (Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, & Adobe Bridge & Media room technology);
  • Able to demonstrate their creativity and originality through a professional portfolio that features their best designs;

  • Ability to maintain attendance and punctuality requirements;
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms;
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time to read, write or use keyboard;
  • Ability to repetitively enter data on keyboard and review information on CRT screen;
  • Ability to speak/hear clearly to communicate by phone or in person;
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
